Be the Trend

'I wonder how long will I be able to keep pushing myself to work like this.
It was becoming difficult each day as I was  not convinced anymore to continue working here. I was demoralised, I was restless, I was desperate to drop my letter and get a better job like my friends'
Well the above is very common ...For a common working IT professional. For that matter, not only limited to IT Industry, but for others too.At some point of time, while working, we get those thoughts and we want to get rid of them sooner.We start our career with full zeal, with lots of dreams with our career in our eyes. However after few years of working, there comes a saturation point when we are hit by those thoughts.



When we start working, we usually are excited with the work, meeting new people, new teams, learning new stuff and getting salaries in our accounts at the end of the month. This salary is a driving force which gives us a financial freedom and a freedom to live our life and fullfil our dreams. Dreams like buying our favorite electronic gadgets, travelling to our dream destinations with friends and family, parties and updating our wardrobe with latest fashion apparels. We live our dreams along with our profesional life.

Few years down the line, as our job responsibilities increases, we are to perform well enough to sustain. Many of our friends/colleagues have left us now and joined other organizations for their career growth. This gives us a psychological effect somewhere. It impacts our mind and unknowingly we divert our mind to something which we even we did not wanted to.

"So my friends are switching jobs , they are leaving the company and getting better places to work with better salaries. I am still stuck here. I am still working here . May be I can get better job too"
This thought leads us to something which we even did not wanted. Just because people around us are changing jobs, we get influenced by that and we want to follow the trend even though we were happy with our current work.

Many times it happens that the same friends that got a better salary in a new company are again open for a new job very soon. A better salary is not directly proportional to a better career.

As we move into senior roles in our career, apart from salary , we also talk about work culture. This is because now we want to make a balance with out professional and married life as well. Getting a high salary and working day and nights, could impact the personal family life as well. Hence at this stage of life, we give high importance to other factors as well apart from a good salary. This is the time we don't want to get stuck with a company where our personal life is impacted and hence we have to look for a change again.

So what do we do?
Should we consider high salary?
Should we consider family and personal time?
Should It be a combination of both?

Well, the answer is none.
We should set our own Goals first. We should align our work as per those goals.Everyone is having their own goals in life, seldom we realise that and follow the general trend that people around is are doing.We should first be loyal to our work. We should be first be commited to our work. We should be the absolute owner of what we are doing in our Job. And finally we should be continuously improving and thus evolving.

Being loyal to our work and to our commitments will deliver success in our efforts. Being the absolute owner of our work will boost confidence within us and the people working with us. If right ownership of the job is undertaken by all professionals, then it automatically improves the overall Organization success. And if the organization is successful, it will give you the credit for that contribution. Be the change for your organization.

Finally, as human being, constantly improving yourself will evolve us as an individual and as a professional.

It is not important to switch jobs, but is very important to keep learning. It is not important to get a good salary only, but it is also important to save time for your family. We should not follow the trend , we should make our own as per our priorities and career goals.

Learning, Adapting and implementing. This should be the true cycle for all working professionals. We should try to bring a change and improve things around us with what we have learnt in life. This can be your workplace, your family or even the society. This small change might bring big difference someday at all levels eventually.
